Meet the victims of the Golden Bars ponzi scheme – Dividends

The premiere episode of Dividends on Africa Magic Showcase wasted no time; it opened with instant chaos. A flashy investment scheme called Golden Bars, sold as “the opportunity of a lifetime,” collapsed overnight, exposing itself as a full-blown Ponzi scheme. As the news spread, panic followed. But what shocked everyone the most wasn’t just the scale of the fraud — it was the calibre of the people who fell for it. Here are the biggest victims and how each of them discovered the heartbreaking truth:

Isa

Even smart people get scammed, and 26-year-old Isa Momodu is living proof. A charismatic teacher and street-smart hustler desperate to “japa” from Nigeria, Isa saw Golden Bars as his ticket out. But his mistake wasn’t just investing his own money; he also convinced his fellow teachers to trust him with their savings and invested everything in the scheme. Now he’s carrying the weight of their losses too.

Chetachi

A celebrated 40 Under 40 professional with multiple thriving businesses, Chetachi was convinced Golden Bars would multiply his wealth. But reality hit hard when his close friend, Shogo, casually mentioned the collapse and sympathized with the “unfortunate investors.” What Shogo didn’t know? Chetachi was one of them!

Owoyokun

Owoyokun didn’t invest a dime in Golden Bars but still became a victim. His cousin, Afeez, poured his campaign money into the scheme, and that misstep cost Owoyokun dearly. His unpaid dues became a political liability, costing him the endorsement he desperately needed to become the next councillor.

Mo

Just 24 hours after mocking Isa, whom she ran into for falling for the scam, Mo’s life also turned upside down — thanks to her mother!  Right in the middle of a scholarship interview, she received a call that shattered her day:
Mummy Simi had been arrested after borrowing a staggering ₦5 million to invest in Golden Bars.
